City of Girls

City of GirlsCity of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Wow. Although this was a mixed bag for me, the book is not without merit and I did enjoy it. AWESOME CHARACTERS! (And I found myself wanting to live at the Lily Playhouse in the 1940s). Unlike many of the other reviews, I actually found more satisfaction in the SECOND half of the book than the first. Young Vivian was SO annoying as was the writing style of and older woman telling the story of her past in a letter. You know, dear Angela? But the story was entertaining and I appreciated Vivian’s growth, independence, and the sexual freedom of a nonconformist woman before the sexual revolution. 3.5 Stars
